Elliott Seizes Opportunity

(2/18/12) Jaroslav Halak did not dress Saturday due to the flu, which meant Brian Elliott got the start between the pipes with Ben Bishop up from Peoria to ride the pine as the back-up.  Elliott took advantage of the opportunity and posted a 4-0 blanking of the Wild - his 20th win and 6th shutout of the season, the latter of which is good for 2nd in the NHL.

The goaltending-by-committee approach is working for the Blues this season; Halak and Elliott have combined for 36 wins.  Unfortunately for fantasy owners, neither goalie is a workhorse and riding Elliott in hope of collecting shutouts from his infrequent starts is a risky venture.  Elliott has started just 26 games this year, and is tied for just 18th in the NHL in wins.  It takes nerves of steel to use him as your #1 netminder.
