Bryzgalov Red Hot For Playoffs
(3/14/12) Ilya Bryzgalov is hitting his stride at exactly the right time. Tuesday he picked up his third straight shutout. He's started every Flyers game for the last 3 weeks, and it's beginning to appear that the team was just easing Bryzgalov into the lineup earlier in the season, when Bobrovsky was starting about a third of the team's games.
This is exactly what the Flyers were hoping for when they sold the farm and re-bought in the city last summer. Out with playoff duds (if you agree with that sentiment) Jeff Carter and Mike Richards, while Bryzgalov was annointed as the city of brotherly love's savior. If you think the Flyers will go deep this year, Bryzgalov is going to be a major reason why.
Interesting note: Bryzgalov is the first Flyers' goalie to put up 3 consecutive goose eggs since the "Beezer" John Vanbiesbrouck did it in 1999. The great thing about the Beez was that he was known to drop the gloves. Check out these old school fight highlights - Kelly Hrudey absolutely jumps him.
