FRI Injury Update: Kovalchuk, Korpikoski, Halak, Radulov, Kostitsyn

(5/4/12) Just one game on the Friday night schedule, with Nashville attempting to tie up its best-of-seven series with Phoenix at home.  Game time is 7:30 pm EST/4:30 pm PST.

Lauri Korpikoski continues his on-again-off-again relationship with the 2012 postseason.  He finally got back into action at the end of Round 1, but has now missed two straight with an undisclosed injury.  He is questionable for Game 4 tonight.  And, although Boyd Gordon absorbed a Shea Weber slap shot in Game 3, he is expected to play Friday.

Of course, the big news is that Alex Radulov and Andrei Kostitsyn may be held out of Game 4 by the team, not because they broke team rules again, but because the Predators won without them in Game 3.  It would be an incredibly ballsy move that could serve to light a fire under the pair of delinquents, or could also serve to alienate them.  Sounds like the Preds are playing with gasoline.  Fantasy owners await the final game-time decision with bated breath.

Looking at a couple of the other second round series: Ilya Kovalchuk returned for Game 3 of the Philly/NJ series.  He recorded 3 points and hit the post in the final minutes, which could have sealed a pre-OT victory.  He was arguably the Devils' best player in the game.

St. Louis has announced that Jaroslav Halak will not play against the Kings - period.  He is out until at least Round 3 with a groin injury.  Although Elliott had a great season, Quick was even better and, with LA up 3-0 and all the pressure in the world resting on the Blues' netminder, Elliott may have finally come back down to earth - which is not a good sign for 2012-2013.  Alex Pietrangelo returned for Game 3, but took a massive hit from Dustin Brown.  He was fine, but the Kings obviously have a game plan on the Blues' best defender.
