Injury Recap for Weds Games

(2/16/12) Pittsburgh defenseman Arron Asham practiced Wednesday but missed his 13th straight game since suffering a concussion.  He's reportedly close to a return and, barring a set-back, Asham is expected to be available Saturday against the Flyers.

Jason Garrison of the Panthers missed his second consecutive game and is out 7-10 days with a lower-body injury.  The Miami Herald reports that it's related to his foot.  Garrison leads the league in goals by a defenseman with 13, including eight on the power-play.

For the Oilers, defenseman Corey Potter sat out with a strained groin.  He's day-to-day going forward and should be considered questionable for Friday against the Avs.

Luke Schenn was a last minute healthy scratch for the Leafs after taking the pre-game skate.  He's been the source of on-going trade rumors and his absence caused a ripple of anticipation, but nothing has happened yet and it seems like Schenn was probably just in the dog house.

The Denver Post reports Peter Mueller sat out against the Canucks due to a torso injury.  The Avs described it as a "maintenance day," so it doesn't sound too serious.  Mueller is still shaking off the rust of missing a full season and a half with a concussion, and it's no surprise that the Avs would be cautious with him.  As for his fantasy status, he's still too inconsistent to activate yet, recording 7-points in 15-games since his comeback.

Colorado also lost J.S. Giguere, who left in the first period with a groin injury.  He told the Denver Post after the game, "I'm not too worried about it... I honestly don't think it's anything serious."  And while he may be unconcerned, we are.  Giguere has battled a nagging groin injury for two straight years, missing multiple stretches and approximately 30-games in total.  It's a problem he's dealt with dating back to the '06-07 season, and his departure raises a definite red flag for us.
