Injury Update: Backes, Franzen, Vokoun

(3/19/12) A few injury notes to get the week started.  First, some good news and some bad news for David Backes owners. Although he hurt his foot on a blocked shot Saturday, x-rays were negative - there are no broken bones.  He is still injured though, and USAToday reports that Backes could be out all week.  We suggest monitoring this situation because Backes will likely be back sooner or later.  He's the Blues' captain and the team is chasing the President's Trophy; he will want to be out there.

Tomas Vokoun owners will be disappointed to learn that he is currently on the shelf with a knee injury. It doesn't sound serious, however he will not dress on Sunday.  Michal Neuvirth and rookie Braden Holtby will be the goalies for the Caps to start the week, but Vokoun could return at a moment's notice.

Andrej Sekera (BUF - D) is returning to the Sabres' lineup; he's missed 5 games with pneumonia.

For the Flyers, both Max Talbot (UBI) and Andreas Lilja (throat) are day-to-day.

Hurricanes veteran D-man Jaroslav Spacek returned on Saturday, but promptly left again.  He's dealing with a back injury.

For Detroit, Darren Helm has now joined Johan Franzen on the injury report.  Helm left Saturday's game with a knee injury, while   Franzen is out with a back injury.  Both are listed as day-to-day.  Joey MacDonald is also out with back spasms. This means that Ty Conklin moves into the backup role. Niklas Lidstrom remains out with an ankle injury.  He's not on the Red Wings' current road trip.

For the Habs, Tomas Kaberle missed action on Saturday, despite playing on Friday.  He is now dealing with a UBI and, generally speaking, seems very unreliable for fantasy GMs.

There you have our injury notes to start the week.  Good luck; the final 10 games (or there abouts) are upon us.
