Injury Update: Hall, Markov, Callahan, Havlat, Skinner Suspension
(3/17/12) Our first note for this weekend isn't an injury, but a suspension. Jeff Skinner has been suspended for the next 2 games for kicking Blues' forward Scott Nichol. There was no penalty on the play, but the Shannahammer stepped in and sent a message. This definitely will come as a surprise to Skinner owners in leagues that make weekend roster moves. It has been revealed that Taylor Hall left Thursday's game in the third period due to a concussion he suffered on a hit by Corey Sarich. Hall is out while he undergoes tests. The NHL meat grinder continues to exact its toll on young players.
Andrei Markov missed the Habs OT loss to the Senators on Friday. There hasn't been much reported, but generally speaking it is not surprising that Markov needed a recovery day. Wait and see here and hope it isn't something serious. However both Emelin and Kaberle did play Friday.
Ryan Callahan will return to action Saturday after dealing with a bruised foot. He is scheduled to play with Dubinsky and Stepan, and will likely resume his usual spot on the Rangers' PP. Artem Anisimov did not practice on Friday after leaving Thursday's game with a shoulder injury. He is not listed on the NHL's game day preview, but that doesn't mean he isn't injured. If you are using Anisimov, look for an update at game time. Ruslan Fedotenko is day-to-day with the flu.
Martin Havlat is back! He played nearly 20 minutes of ice time in the Sharks' 2-1 shoot-out win over Nashville on Thursday, after missing 39 with a torn hamstring. Havlat even got a shot in the shoot-out. This is excellent news for the Sharks' playoff hopes. If the team qualifies with Havlat in the lineup, the entire roster gets a bump.
The Ottawa Citizen is reporting that Craig Anderson could be back as early as next week. Ben Bishop has grabbed the de facto starter job in the meantime going 3-0-2 in the process. Anderson will resume his workhorse position, but it is likely now that Bishop will take over from Alex Auld as the team's number one back-up.
Johan Franzen is experiencing back spasms and is a game-time decision for the Wings. Matt Cullen (MIN) is dealing with a knee injury, but he did play on Saturday. Radim Vrbata should be back on Sunday; he's also been battling the flu. Adrian Aucoin is questionable for Sunday thanks to a LBI.
There you have our weekend injury news. Good luck in the coming week.
