Monday Injury Update
(3/5/12) The big news coming out today is that Taylor Hall injured his shoulder in Friday's game. He was unable to practice Sunday and is doubtful for Monday night's contest against the Ducks. The Oilers also play Tuesday and Thursday, so there's a danger that Hall could miss a few games here. If you can still get him out of the lineup for the week, it might be the smart thing to do.
One of the other key storylines of the day is that Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard left last night's game after the first period. He was quoted by the Detroit Free Press afterward saying, "this is all I can tell you: it's a lower-body injury and it's day to day... Nothing serious. Get it re-evaluated tomorrow... As the period went on, the injury just got tighter and tighter." Howard is doubtful for Tuesday against the Flyers, and his owners should immediately move to secure Detroit's backup Joey MacDonald.
Also for the Wings, defenseman Jakub Kindl aggravated an upper-body injury and left after two shifts. And Nicklas Lidstrom missed the game as expected and is doubtful for Tuesday. He skipped practice today and continues to recover from a severe bone bruise to his foot. Todd Bertuzzi is another Red Wing doubtful for Tuesday - he's dealing with a groin strain.
Another blow to fantasy owners today is the loss of Kimmo Timonen. The Flyers D-man missed Sunday's game with a lower-body injury, ending his streak of 248 consecutive starts, and GM Paul Holmgren announced Timonen is out indefinitely. Philly is notoriously secretive regarding injuries, so take the news with a grain of salt. We don't know how long Timonen will be out, but "indefinitely" doesn't necessarily mean long term on this one. Same goes for another Flyer Andrej Meszaros, who is also listed as out indefinitely with a lower-body injury.
It was all over the news yesterday that Jonathan Toews is out at least two more games, but all it means is he didn't accompany his teammates on Chicago's current road trip. Toews is still suspected to be battling concussion symptoms and has yet to be cleared for contact. In fact, he hasn't even resumed skating and his workouts are limited to the exercise bike for now. At best it looks like Toews is 10-14 days away. At worst... we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Tyler Kennedy is probable to return for the Penguins tonight, while teammate Deryk Engelland is doubtful. Kennedy took the morning skate and should suit up for the first time since suffering a high ankle sprain and missing 11 games. Engelland incurred a lower-body injury against the Avs and is day-to-day.
And not that he belongs in your fantasy lineup, but Devils defenseman Andy Greene sat out Sunday's game with back spasms and is day-to-day. And teammate Alexei Ponikarovsky missed his second straight start with a leg injury. He's questionable for Tuesday.
