Vanek Out for a Week
Standard Spin: According to BuffaloNews.com, Sabres forward Thomas Vanek is out at least a week after suffering an upper-body injury in the first period of Tuesday's game. Head coach Lindy Ruff said of Vanek after the game, "he's going to be out for a period of time... Our initial thought is maybe a week, but our doctor is going to have to evaluate it. It's the type of injury we're going to have to dig a little deeper on."
There was no noticable blow that cause the injury, as Vanek played the first period but then failed to answer the bell for the second. He's been cold as of late anyway - one point in his last eight games - and perhaps a nagging injury is the reason. He took a puck in the face a few weeks ago, and there have also been rumblings of a possible rib issue. Regardless of whether this latest injury is related, it's time to bench him for the time being. We should know more in the coming days. (2/1/12)
