Weds Playoff Injury Update: Daniel Sedin Out Game One?

(4/11/12) Well fantasy owners, this is what we've been waiting for.  The 2012 NHL playoffs have finally arrived, and we've got some last minute injury updates for the key players in tonight's games.

Canucks vs. Kings

There is huge news breaking in Vancouver, as it sounds like Daniel Sedin is out for Game One.  The mainstream media is taking this story and running with it, but before we get too carried away here, it must be noted that the information originates from a Swedish media outlet that was informed of the news by Daniel's father.

Head Coach Alain Vigneault was coy when addressing the comments, saying, "There's no new information... so obviously he's not going to play tonight.  I'm not going to discuss what his father said and whether his information is correct... We have the total picture.  We know what's going on and we're not sharing that information."

Daniel was not on the ice for the morning skate, so it definitely sounds like he's probably not going to play, but there is at least a slim possibility that the whole thing is subterfuge on the part of the Canucks.  One way or the other, the team has done an amazing job creating confusion and doubt.  We'll go along with the charade and say he's doubtful for tonight, but we aren't going to declare Daniel officially out until we see who's on the bench when the puck drops.  Assuming Daniel doesn't play, it means Mason Raymond slots in on the top line, which obviously bumps Raymond up the fantasy rankings for anyone conducting a draft tonight.

Also for the Canucks, Zack Kassian is expected to play after missing the final two games of the season with an upper-body injury.

For the Kings, the picture is a lot more clear.  Jeff Carter (ankle) skated this morning and is probable to suit up.  However, Brad Richardson is out after undergoing an emergency appendectomy

Predators vs. Red Wings

For the Red Wings, Dan Cleary's knee is not 100%, but he's expected to start anyway.  Teammate Darren Helm is still listed as questionable, but he took the ice for the morning skate on a line with Cleary and could make it into the lineup.  Expect Helm to be a game-time decision.

For Nashville, Alex Radulov took a maintenance day on Monday and did not practice, but he's fine.  He'll be 100% tonight for Game One.  However, Preds D-man Hal Gill is dealing with a lower-body injury and is a game-time decision.

Devils vs. Panthers

Panthers forward Marco Sturm was not on the ice for the morning skate, which leads us to believe he'll sit out tonight's game.  He's dealing with an undisclosed lower-body injury.

And the Devils are healthy going into tonight, as David Clarkson and Anton Volchenkov are probable after missing the final game of the season.

Penguins vs. Flyers

Making a surprise return, Danny Briere is upgraded to probable and should be good to go against the Pens.  He missed the final week of the season with a back contusion, but he took the morning skate and we expect him to be ready.

As reported yesterday, James Neal, Matt Niskanen, and Steve Sullivan are all fine for the Penguins and expected to be in action.

That's all for now.  We'll be watching the Sedin situation closely, and we'll have more information if and when it becomes available. If you have a draft tonight, we'd be wary of selecting Daniel with an early pick.
