Thursday Injury Update
(3/1/12) The big news from last night's games is that Penguins defenseman Kris Letang went down with a head injury after taking a brutal hit from Eric Nystrom in the first period. Letang stayed down for a minute or so before making his way off the ice with the help of trainers. He was badly shaken up, and he seemed to muster all his strength just to make it down the tunnel. This is definitely very concerning for his owners, especially considering Letang missed 21 games earlier this year with a concussion. As you can see in the replay, he took the brunt of the hit directly to his head and all signs point to the "C" word again.
Another Penguin who was hurt in the game was Steve Sullivan. He scored a pair of goals, but he apparently also suffered a minor lower-body injury. We wrote him up after the game and recommended picking him up based on his excellent play as of late, but this puts the brakes on any thoughts of grabbing him. If the ailment doesn't cost him any time, we still like him though. Sullivan is always dealing with something, so wait for more information and go from there.
Sabres forward Brad Boyes was expected to miss last night's game against the Ducks with an upper-body injury, but he ended up playing. He even scored his first goal in 23 games.
According to the Boston Globe, Johnny Boychuk participated in the morning skate with his Bruins teammates today. He's recovering from a concussion, but he went full out and appears to be making good progress. He's confirmed out for tonight's game against the Devils, but he's close.
One player who is returning tonight is David Moss. The Flames forward missed 47 games after suffering a broken ankle Nov. 14, and he's set to go on the OMG line with Olli Jokinen and Curtis Glencross. Moss had some productive stretches last season and is worth a look in leagues with deep rosters. Expect some rust though, and know he's not really a factor in a standard sized league.
And not that he's really fantasy relevant, but Colarodo's Chuck Kobasew is doubtful for tonight's game after tweaking his back during yesterday's practice.
Defenseman James Wisniewski has a leg injury and is listed on the USA Today injury report as doubtful for tonight's game, although numerous tweets are saying he's a game-time decision. Regardless, fantasy owners should make preparations to be without the Jackets D-man tonight.
For the Isles, Al Montoya is day-to-day with an upper-body injury and is questionable for tonight's game against the Flyers. Expect to see Nabokov between the pipes.
And for the Rangers, Henrik Lundqvist is being given a rest day and New York will go with Martin Biron tonight against Carolina. As well, Ryan Callahan and Brandon Dubinsky are doubtful. Callahan is nursing a bruised foot, while Dubinsky has a shoulder injury.
In San Jose, Logan Couture is a game-time decision after missing the Sharks' previous contest with a lower-body injury, but he skated this morning and is expected to play. Also probable to return after missing four games is new teammate Dominic Moore.
