Weds Injury Update

(2/29/12) There aren't any significant injuries to report from Tuesday's games, but it's a busy day of updates as we have new information on a number of important fantasy plalyers.

As expected, Nicklas Lidstrom missed Tuesday's game with a bruised ankle.  He's day-to-day going forward and should be considered questionable for Friday's game against Minny.  Teammate Kyle Quincey also missed the game, and he's questionable himself for Friday.

The Lightning have a nasty flu going through the team, and Brendan Mikkelson and Nate Thompson sat out to rest Tuesday against the Habs.  Teddy Purcell was also affected, but he suited up and even managed an assist.  All three are officially questionable going into Friday's game against the Rangers, although you have to think Purcell will be fine since he went last night.

For the Sabres, Brad Boyes has missed the last two games with an upper-body injury and is expected to sit out again tonight against the Ducks.

And according to the Chicago Sun Times, Jonathan Toews took part in off-ice workouts for the Blackhawks on Wednesday.  It's a nice "feel good" nugget of news for fantasy owners, but the reality is that Toews was on the exercise bike for some light work.  He remains out with concussion symptoms and there's no time-table for a return.  Teammate Nicklas Hjalmarsson will also miss tonight's game against the Leafs as he deals with an upper-body injury.

James Wisniewski popped up on the USA Today injury list today with an "apparent leg injury."  He missed a couple of games recently with a groin strain, so it might be lingering and giving him ongoing trouble.  He's listed as questionable for Thursday.

Some good news here, as Jamie Benn is probable to return for the Stars as they take on the Penguins Wednesday.  He's missed six games after being cut by a skate on his thigh on Feb. 16.

Oilers netminder Nikolai Khabibulin has been battling a groin strain which has caused him to miss four games, but he's ready to make his return and is probable to start against St. Louis tonight.

Tomas Kopecky unexpectedly did not dress last night for the Panthers, and he's dealing with an undisclosed injury.  Not much is known on this one, so the best we can say is he's day-to-day.

New information has surfaced in regard to Mikko Koivu, who has missed the last six games with a shoulder injury.  The Wild announced today that Koivu saw a specialist Tuesday and is now shut down from all contact for at least two weeks, after which he'll be re-evaluated.  He was originally hurt Jan. 14 and was able to return for a stretch of four games before the most recent setback.  And it's worth mentioning there are some rumblings that Koivu could be done for the season, but it seems premature to declare anything like that.

And it appears the Preds may have received damaged goods, as newly acquired Paul Gaustad has yet to suit up and remains questionable with an upper-body injury going into the weekend.

Lastly, Rangers captain Ryan Callahan has a bruised foot and is questionable for Thursday.  The team is listing him as day-to-day.
