Andy McDonald Cleared for Contact

Standard Spin: On Monday, Blues forward Andy Mcdonald participated in full-contact practice for the first time since suffering a concussion back in October.  He's been skating for several weeks already and he'll likely need a few more before he sees live action, but this marks another milestone on his path to a return.

From a fantasy perspective, McDonald is an intriguing player.  Although he's had a series of head injuries over his career - at least 6 concussions by our count - he's been extremely productive when healthy.  He's averaged an impressive .8 points per game over the last four seasons and, after sitting out the first 24 games last year, he came back and posted 50 points in 58 starts.  He's proven he can come back and immediately begin to produce.  By this point in the season it's tough to find free agents with much potential, so if McDonald is available in your league, now's the time to go and get him.  If it doesn't work out, so be it, but if it does, he could be a secret weapon for the stretch run.  (1/31/12)
