Zajac Still Ailing, Larsson Hit with Puck

Standard Spin: The Devils play back to back games Tuesday and Wednesday, and Travis Zajac is doubtful for both contests.  He's still troubled by his surgically repaired achilles and, after a brief 8 game return, he's back on the shelf.  Zajac told the Star-Ledger, "I didn't feel I could protect myself out there if something happened.  I just felt uncomfortable skating.  I felt I was losing some strength."
Zajac is a player we like, but this is a situation we don't.  It looks like his production will be hindered, and he could pop in and out of the line-up for the next while.  We won't declare the season a write-off just yet, but we don't expect him to become relevant until the final 20 games in 2012... if he does at all.
Also of note, teammate Adam Larsson escaped serious injury when he took a puck to the face in practice Monday but did need 3 stitches to close the gash.
And Anton Volchenkov returns to the Devils' line-up after missing 4 games with a lower-body injury.  (Jan.10)
